The Bayfest 2018 event was launched on Saturday, and there are events throughout the month to help keep the children entertained.
Check out the Bayfest booklet, available around the town, or pick up a leaflet from the museum giving more details of our events.
Most events are free, some have a small charge, and some are best booked in advance, as space is limited.

Entries are now being accepted for our children’s competition: design party clothes inspired by our 1920s exhibition.
Entry forms and details can be collected from the museum, and we have two great prizes – one for the primary age group (5-11), and the other for secondary age group (11-18).
Father Christmas will tell stories in the museum on Saturday 9 December at 11am and 12pm.
Limited number of places so booking is recommended.
Cost £2.00 which includes a present.
Each year we hold a photography competition and exhibition, and produce a calendar from some of the wonderful photos.
The next theme, for exhibition in 2018 and a 2019 calendar, is Leisure and Pleasure in Herne Bay. Please look through your photos, spread the word and pick up your entry forms from the museum.
The Seaside museum would like to celebrate and congratulate Rafferty Parr-Clark and Abigail Balmer, seen here receiving their bronze Wheels of Time badge and certificate, after visiting 10 sites in the scheme. Both are now working towards collecting their silver badges.Our beach is well known for sharks’ teeth, but what else can be found?
During Bayfest, a group of adults and children had the chance to find out, as they joined expert Phil Hadland for a walk along the shore at low tide.
This event proved very popular, and another has been arranged for 17th September – contact the museum for further information and to book your place.
UPDATE: the fossil walk on 17th September is now fully booked, I’m afraid – keep watching for further events!
Our new What’s On list is now available from the museum, listing our exhibitions, talks and children’s events for the next few months.
We also have another fossil walk planned, for 17th September at 3.30pm. Booking is essential for this very popular activity. Join our expert for a walk along the beach and learn what to look out for and how to find the different types of fossils commonly found in the area.

Bayfest promises to be a summer-long festival, with events throughout the town. The Seaside Museum Herne Bay is proud to present our own events in conjunction with the festival.
