Photography competition

Each year we hold a photography competition and exhibition, and produce a calendar from some of the wonderful photos.

The next theme, for exhibition in 2018 and a 2019 calendar, is Leisure and Pleasure in Herne Bay. Please look through your photos, spread the word and pick up your entry forms from the museum.

Wheels of time presentations

The Seaside museum would like to celebrate and congratulate Rafferty Parr-Clark and Abigail Balmer, seen here receiving their bronze Wheels of Time badge and certificate, after visiting 10 sites in the scheme. Both are now working towards collecting their silver badges.
Presented by Ian Tittley, chairman,  and Audrey Parkes, Trustee of The seaside Museum Herne Bay,  museum coordinator of the scheme  and Core Member of the Wheels of Time.

Fossil hunting

Our beach is well known for sharks’ teeth, but what else can be found?

During Bayfest, a group of adults and children had the chance to find out, as they joined expert Phil Hadland for a walk along the shore at low tide.

This event proved very popular, and another has been arranged for 17th September – contact the museum for further information and to book your place.

UPDATE: the fossil walk on 17th September is now fully booked, I’m afraid – keep watching for further events!

What’s On September onwards

Our new What’s On list is now available from the museum, listing our exhibitions, talks and children’s events for the next few months.

We also have another fossil walk planned, for 17th September at 3.30pm. Booking is essential for this very popular activity. Join our expert for a walk along the beach and learn what to look out for and how to find the different types of fossils commonly found in the area.

Full information is available from the museum.

The Wheels of Time

Join Roamin’ Rex, a time-travelling character, as he discovers Kent’s fantastic museums and heritage sites.

The Seaside Museum Herne Bay is proud to be one of the 25 museums in Kent who are part of the Wheels of Time scheme. Young visitors (5-11) may collect an exclusive badge at each museum, making an impressive collection, and there’s also a chance for 5-14 year-olds to earn learning credits for Kent Children’s University.

We have a dedicated children’s area within the museum, with hands-on activities and dressing up, as well as plenty to learn about our town’s history and development.

Our shop carries pocket-money gifts and toys.
