William Sidney Cooper was the great-nephew of the more famous English landscape artist Thomas Sidney Cooper whose superb large-scale ‘cow portraits’ are displayed and celebrated in The Garden Room of the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge in Canterbury.
William was moderately successful as a painter and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Watercolour Society. In his forties, he moved permanently to Herne Bay and painted the local countryside, mirroring his great uncle with a penchant for painting livestock.
He died in 1927 and was buried locally.
